A SMALL GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA AMITABHA, 17TH-18TH CENTURY

Lot details

Tibetan-Chinese. Seated in dhyanasana atop a double lotus throne with beaded edges, his hands held above his lap in dhyana mudra and holding an alms bowl. Dressed in voluminous robes and a scarf incised with foliate designs, the outer robe opening at the chest revealing the similarly decorated undergarment tied above the waist. His serene face with downcast eyes below arched brows, his full lips forming a benevolent smile flanked by long pendulous earlobes, the hair arranged in tight curls over the high ushnisha topped with a jewel.

Provenance: A private collection in Hungary. Galerie Zacke, Vienna, 8 December 2018, lot 62, sold for EUR 1,138 or approx. EUR 1,400 (adjusted for inflation at the time of writing). A private collection in Portugal, acquired from the above.
Condition: Good condition with expected old wear and casting irregularities. The base sealed with a simple copper sheet. The bowl replaced. Small nicks, some scratches, minor rubbing to gilt. Remnants of ancient pigment.

Intended Spend and Bid Limits

When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'. 

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
