Meticulously and cleverly carved incorporating the natural veins and colors of the partially translucent mineral to playfully depict a recumbent cat and its cub nuzzling cheek to cheek, a small flower and stem resting between the two, the adult with one paw placed on its young. The fur is well detailed with fine incision work and there are several pierced sections between the cats’ bodies for suspension as a pendant. The partly translucent stone of a pale gray color with black shadings, specks, and veins as well as cloudy inclusions.

Provenance: From an old European private collection, assembled before 2000 (by family repute), and thence by descent.
Condition: Very good condition with minimal wear and few minuscule nibbles. The stone with natural inclusions and fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks.

The cat is a symbol of longevity, as the Chinese word for 'cat' (mao) is homophonous with the poetic, yet arcane, Chinese word for 'eighty to ninety' (mao). The playful kitten also suggests that longevity is accompanied by offspring to continue the family line.

Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'. 

Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT.  For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
