Lot details

Tibet, 19th century or earlier (the bead). An elongated tubular Dzi bead, featuring eight distinctive eyes skillfully etched to the surface. The natural agate displays rich dark brown hues with contrasting lighter etching and is adorned with Naga skin weathering marks. Central drilling allowing for wearing as a pendant, suspended on a 925-sterling silver necklace with semi-precious gemstones, of a later date.

Provenance: Old Austrian private collection.
Condition: Good condition with natural patina, losses to the etching, typical traces of use and age-related wear.

Weight: 37 g
Dimensions: Length 3.9 cm (Dzi bead), 25 cm (necklace)

Naga skin weathering refers to the natural crackled or textured surface that appears on aged Dzi beads, resembling the scales of a Naga, the mystical serpent deity in Tibetan and Hindu traditions. In Tibetan culture, Nagas are guardians of wisdom, hidden treasures, and spiritual knowledge. The presence of Naga skin patterns on a Dzi bead is considered highly auspicious.

The Eight-Eye Dzi bead is a symbol of wisdom, protection, and the expansion of spiritual awareness. In Tibetan Buddhism, the number eight is deeply significant, representing the Eightfold Path, which guides practitioners toward enlightenment through right understanding, thought, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration. The eight eyes are believed to enhance intuition, remove obstacles, and attract prosperity and blessings.

Auction: A Spiritual Bang: Unveiling Our New Space with a No-Reserve Dzi Bead Auction, 29th Apr, 2025

We are opening our brand-new, 6,000-square-foot exhibition, showroom, and auction rooms with a spiritual bang—by launching a no-reserve auction dedicated entirely to ancient Buddhist dzi beads.

Located at Zelinkagasse 6, 1010 Vienna, our new additional auction and preview space is just a seven-minute walk from our longstanding, 10,000-square-foot office, photography, video, and cataloging hub at Sterngasse 13. Both locations are now open to the public, and we warmly invite you to visit.

Buddhist dzi beads are revered for their ancient power and mystical symbolism. Traditionally worn as amulets or strung into protective necklaces, they are believed to attract blessings, health, and spiritual insight. The number and pattern of eyes on each bead often indicate specific benefits, from warding off misfortune to enhancing wisdom and compassion.

Interest in dzi beads has surged in recent years, and we are proud to present this exceptional collection, assembled over several decades with great care and discernment.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to acquire dzi beads of profound spiritual and historical resonance—with no reserves!

Our Terms and Conditions

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our auctions fair and transparent, we encourage you to read our terms and conditions thoroughly. We urge you to read through §34-50) to ensure you understand them. These terms are specifically designed to protect all serious and committed buyers from bidding against non-payers who attempt to inflate prices without the intent of paying their auction bills.

For further reading about non-payers at auction, go here: https://www.zacke.at/aboutnonpayers/.

The main points include the following:

  • Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
  • A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
  • A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.

If you have any questions about our policies, please get in touch with us at office@zacke.at.

By placing a bid, you agree to our Terms of Auction and Terms and Conditions.
