Japan, 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868)
Thinly potted and of katatsuki form, covered in a rich, glossy dark-brown glaze with beautiful ochre drippings stopping irregularly above the foot, the base unglazed and with an itokiri mark.

Condition: Good condition with minor wear and firing irregularities. The cover is lost.
Provenance: Sotheby’s New York, Chinese and Japanese works of art, November 20th, 1982, lot 233. A private collection in New England, United States, acquired from the above. With an old Sotheby`s label printed with the lot number ‘233’ and inscribed ‘4’. The base with a label printed with the inventory number ’23’. The interior with two notes.

- Bidders must complete their due diligence and clarify all questions about the objects before the auction. After the auction, Zacke will not answer questions from bidders unless the purchase price has been paid in full. Of course, this does not apply to questions concerning shipping, insurance, customs, etc.
- A sale cancellation of any kind after the fall of the hammer is not possible. The only exception to this fundamental rule is our guarantee of authenticity [the Guarantee].
- A Guarantee Claim, however, can only be raised after the purchase price has been paid in full by the buyer and within 45 days after the auction day.
